Recycling - what can we do?
Another method of frugal living!
Have you ever wondered just
what we could reduce, reuse and recycle in our homes? The powers that be say
that in most cases it is better to choose items which create less rubbish, for
example goods without excessive packaging. Being frugal with your
purchases will create less rubbish.
Reduce
- Try not to buy goods which are very heavily
packaged
- Instead of buying pre-packed food, try to buy it
loose
- Instead of using the supermarket shopping bags,
take your own or even use their doorstep delivery service
- Have a go at growing your own vegetables. Many
varieties can be grown in small gardens
- Try and save disposable nappies for holidays or
long journeys, and use biodegradable nappies instead – much kinder to
baby’s skin and the environment.
- And something simple like take a packed lunch in
a reusable plastic container
Reuse
- Any bits of scrap paper can be reused for
writing notes, etc
- Old envelopes can be reused by sticking labels
over the address
- Instead of buying batteries every so often, buy
rechargeable ones instead
- Try to buy things in refillable containers e.g.
washing powders
- Any old clothes and books you may have could go
to charity shops, or have a car boot sale
- When
buying appliances try and look for energy efficient ones
Recycle
- When buying any products try and choose ones
which say they can be recycled
- Instead of throwing away your kitchen waste make
your own compost
